Acclimation to fluctuating light: cyclic electron flow

The thylakoid membrane proteins PGR5 and PGRL1 are involved in cyclic electron flow (CEF) and become crucial for plant development under fluctuating light. Recently, we found that PGRL1 regulates PGR5 abundance and activity rather than being an essential structural component of CEF. In this project, we aim to dissect the regulation of PGR5-dependent CEF by PGRL1 and other proteins. We will analyse the interplay of CEF with other electron transport pathways in chloroplasts and develop and test approaches to enhance acclimation by modifying regula-tory components of CEF
