Influence of ascorbate-mediated signalling on plastidial metabolism and photosynthesis
Ascorbate levels have been reported to alter during acclimation to fluctuating environments. In inde-pendent experiments ascorbate has also been demonstrated to coordinate the rates of photosynthe-sis and respiration. Here we propose to obtain a variety of transgenic lines with altered levels of ascorbate and to characterize them in detail at the gene expression, metabolic and physiological lev-els, as well as to elucidate how they differ in response to high light and cold acclimation. In parallel, the suppressor mutant approaches will be adopted in order to elucidate the signal transduction relay linking alteration in ascorbate levels with chloroplast function and the intracellular transport of ascorbate.
